1 Family Plans To Do Crowdfunding For Legal Fees After 2 Singaporean Men Jailed For Crossdressing In UAE

Mr Fadli Rahman, 26, a fashion photographer, and Nur Qistina Fitriah Ibrahim, 37, were arrested on Aug 9, with an official court document in Arabic saying two Singaporean men were caught for wearing women’s clothes in public and for behaving indecently.

The Straits Times reported that Nur Qistina is a transgender person who had legally changed her name but has not undergone gender reassignment surgery to become a woman.

The pair, who had arrived in the capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Aug 8, were arrested while out buying lunch at a shopping mall and were sentenced on Aug 20.

Cross-dressing, homosexuality and transgender behaviour are crimes in the UAE.

Mr Fadli was in Abu Dhabi for a photo shoot. He had previously worked on TV show Mongolia’s Next Top Model, and fashion magazines Her World and Men’s Folio.

The New Paper spoke to Mr Fadli’s brother, Mr Saiful Rahman, 32, yesterday. The property officer said the family last had contact with Mr Fadli when he sent a selfie on Aug 9.

Mr Saiful said the family then heard of the arrest from Mr Fadli’s friends on Aug 14.

When asked how his parents reacted to the news, he said: “My parents were crying and worried about him over there.”

He added: “We just want him back. We want him back safely. They can even deport him.”

The two men have until Sept 4 to appeal against their sentence.

When contacted, a spokesman from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told TNP: “MFA is aware of this case and is rendering the necessary consular assistance. We are also assisting the family to seek legal advice.”

Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, in an e-mail to the family seen by The Straits Times, said: “I’m sorry to hear about this. Rest assured that our consular and mission colleagues will do their best to assist your brother. I understand that they are already in contact with you and your brother. Please let me know if you need further assistance.”

Mr Saiful said the family have reached out to a lawyer in Abu Dhabi, Ms Stephanie Mouanes, an associate at Al Suwaidi & Company Advocates & Legal Consultants.

Speaking to TNP over the phone yesterday, Ms Mouanes said she had been in contact with the family but would not be able to furnish any details about the case until they officially appoint her.

Mr Fadli’s family and friends are planning to launch a crowdfunding campaign to raise money for his legal fees.

Ungrateful Grab Rider After Paying $3.50 For The Ride, She Reported Driver For Moonlighting To MINDEF

A photo was posted in the group SG Road Vigilante:

“On 15 Dec 16, SSG XXX used GrabHitch to pick up a passenger, one Ms. Danielle Goh, from 5 Simon Road, Singapore S545893, and ferried her to her destination at Blk 405A, Fernvale Lane, Singapore 791405. He received payment of $3.50 as remuneration for his services. He was wearing his SAF uniform at the time. On 16 Dec 16, the MINDEF Feedback Unit received an email from Ms Goh alleging that SSG XXX was a regular serviceman who was moonlighting as a GrabHitch driver. His unit then commenced investigations into the matter and investigations were later handed over to SID as the matter involved a commercial entity, Grab. In the course of SIB’s investigations, it was revealed that SSG XXX had completed a total f 140 trips between 26 Oct 16 and 14 Mar 17 using GrabHitch and received a total of the approval of PS(DD) or DMP before receiving remuneration for the services he rendered as a GrabHitch driver.

He was eventually convicted by GCM and sentenced to a fine of $2,000 in default of 2 weeks detention. He is currently pending offence severity assessment.”

Now it seems like netizens are angered by the incident and want to make it viral so that no drivers will pick up this vigilante called Danielle Goh in the future. Do you think what she have done is fair or justice? How ungrateful can she be?

  • From Bike Messenger To SEA Games: Singaporean Luqmanul Hakim’s Unlikely Journey

From Bike Messenger To SEA Games: Singaporean Luqmanul Hakim’s Unlikely Journey

The disappointment of finishing out of the medals clearly showed on debutant Luqmanul Hakim as he looked downcast following the end of the men’s team time trial race at the SEA Games on Tuesday (Aug 22). For Team Singapore’s men’s road cycling team, it was always going to be a Herculean task against favourites Malaysia on their home ground. The quartet of Gabriel Tan, Teoh Yi Peng, Junaidi Hashim and Luqmanul eventually posted a credible timing of 1:06:45.326 to finish in sixth place as Malaysia won gold in the 9-team event. Thailand took silver, while Vietnam bagged bronze. It was a tough learning experience for 19-year-old Luqmanul who has had an interesting journey to becoming a SEA Games athlete.

    HUMBLE BEGINNINGS
Just two years ago, Luqmanul could not have imagined representing his country, as he worked as a dispatch cyclist delivering parcels in Singapore’s Central Business District on his “fixie” bicycle. “Yes, it’s true,” said the full-time National Serviceman, when asked about his previous job. “In Singapore, there isn’t any organic structure to race competitively so at the start we had to fund ourselves by finding our own money to go for races.”

Building up his abilities in Malaysia helped his journey to the SEA Games, according to the young racer. “Thankfully a development team sponsored me – the Pro Development Project – where I trained with the Terengganu juniors like Khalid Nasrudin and the rest, and it really built up my abilities. At the start (of my career) it was hard, but you cannot let your guard down. Training-wise, you must always be committed and you must remember why you started.”

    DREAM FULFILLED
Racing in the SEA Games was a dream come true for the 19-year old. “It was an awesome once-in-a-lifetime experience and I basically had nothing to lose,” said Luqmanul, on the positives he gained in the team time trial event on Tuesday. “I enjoyed myself out there and my heart rate was quite high, as it was my first time. Even going up the team time trial platform was exciting.” Dejected at the outcome of the team time trial for Singapore, the teen is already aiming finish strongly in the mass start start road race on Thursday. “I’m already looking forward to do my very best in the road race with my team-mates in two days,” he said. “Today didn’t go as planned but we tried our best. We showed our capability, but there’s still one more race to go.”

  • Non-Muslim Owned Eateries Hiring Tudung Clad Muslimahs

Non-Muslim Owned Eateries Hiring Tudung Clad Muslimahs

There are many non-Muslim owned eateries in Singapore such as Bengawan Solo, etc., hiring tudung clad Muslimahs. What is the purpose of hiring these Muslimahs if the owner has no intention to apply for a halal certificate?

    ***

    MAKCIK HALAL-CERTIFIED
