Commentary: Vote Wisely In The Next Election

The train collision marked a new low for SMRT and our Nation. Louder comes the call for heads to roll from the very top. What is at the root of the SMRT failures?

SMRT is a corporation (private) that is owned by the Government. Supposedly, this model of corporatizing public services serve to benefit all stake holders. We hear this idealistic scenario again recently in Parliament, when Mr Khaw Boon Wan made the same points in response to questions. But have all stakeholders benefited as claimed or only their select few?

A private corporation exist for profit while a public service exists to serve the public. So there is a fundamental problem to begin with when the Government decides to run public services like a business. Try as you will but you cannot have the cake and eat it too.

After more than 50 years of running the country like a business against all wisdoms cautioning the dangers of profiting off public services, Singaporeans are witnessing the inevitable happen. The so-called efficiency comes at a huge expense to the public. When public officers meant to serve public interest failed their fiduciary duties as the structure of check and balances are compromised by colluding conflict of interests producing a public/private self-serving mess that we now inherited.

When the next election comes, we must correct this by voting our rights to take back this Nation and stop their failed projects (HDB, COE, ERP, CPF, 6.9 Million people, etc.) on their tracks.

  • Open Letter To Halimah Yacob From Your Neighbours: Others Are Being Inconvenience So That You Can Remain Convenient

Open Letter To Halimah Yacob From Your Neighbours: Others Are Being Inconvenience So That You Can Remain Convenient

    Dear Halimah,

Ok, thank you very much, the show has been fun, but please move on now. We are quite upset that you have indicated that you will stay in your Yishun flat instead of moving to the Istana. Please consider the following points:

    1)
By insisting on staying in your flat in Yishun, you are causing a major inconvenience to your neighbours. Already, 2 parking spots downstairs have been reserved for police vehicles, as well, the constant stream of reporters, and other members of your presidential entourage compete for parking space in an already scarce parking lot. Look at the size of the parking lot, you can see how small it is, it’s not a multi storey parking structure. How and where are we going to park our vehicles? We as locals are being flooded by a deluge of non resident parking in our area, much akin to our locals being flooded by a deluge of FTs.

    2)

Please dignify the Presidential appointment by residing in the official residence. This is the highest office in the land. All our prior Presidents have accorded it the respect it deserves by residing in the official residence where they easily entertain foreign guests and dignitaries. The residence of the President lends prestige and honour to the position. A HDB flat does not. There is a multimillion $ budget created for the upkeep and maintenance of the Istana. If you are not planning to reside there, then it’s just taxpayer money that is wasted, or do you care at all? Obviously, you are not going to entertain foreign VIP guests in your flat, which means you have to commute every day in your entourage of police outrider bikes and police cars to fulfill your duties at the Istana. For a govt that is harping on productivity and for a supposed Union chief, this does not sound to productive to me, versus staying in the Istana and walking to your appointments. Is this a case of “You can take the Makcik out of the kampong, but you cannot take the kampong out of the makcik?”

    3)

Already, the Police and other assorted SOs are stopping everyone around the area to ask for their IC and their business. People living in the neighbouring blocks have to go through police questioning every time they leave and return home. Maybe this means nothing to you. But it does mean something to us. You have claimed that your flat was very convenient. That’s great. Others are being inconvenience so that you can remain convenient.

    4)

If you think that you are being like one of the people by staying in your HDB flat, we want to tell you that the Elected President Non election show was already too much, the show has ended but you are continuing the wayang. In the first place, no heartlanders have a flat the size of yours. Your own husband Mr Mohamed Adullah Alhabshee, said was “as huge as a penthouse”. We all know you obtained your flat by buying 2 units and then tearing the war down between the 2 flats to make a jumbo flat. How many flat dwellers are allowed to do this? How many flat dwellers live in a flat that is as big as yours? They will be lucky to have a flat half the size. And they will receive a letter from HDB lawyers if they went ahead to tear down a common wall between 2 units. Lets be clear on one thing. You have not live like a common HDB flat dweller, you have earned your money the hard way like a common person, and you sure are not like a HDB dweller. So, lets drop the wayang.

So, for all these reasons listed above, kindly pack up as soon as possible and vacate the premises.

  • Commentary: HDB Flats Keep Springing Up, But Given Away To New Citizens Like Goreng Pisang Panas

Commentary: HDB Flats Keep Springing Up, But Given Away To New Citizens Like Goreng Pisang Panas

Today HDB is building so many flats like there is no tomorrow. Just take a drive around Singapore to witness for yourselves. Every empty space, in between existing flats, at every nook and corner, flats are springing up.

But true blue Singaporeans, especially those who are starting a family and after having served the nation through NS, still have to wait for quite a while before they can get their flats. The reasons are not too difficult to find.

Take a look at these pictures. Thousands of foreigners are given citizenship status every year. And as newly minted citizens they – as well as thousands of PRs (permanent citizens) who are yet to obtain their citizenship, are also entitled to be allocated the flats. A sizeable percentage of newly build flats are reserved for them.

As many as 25,000 foreigners are granted citizenship and they bring in with them many thousands more who are family members and dependents. How many units of flats does the HDB have to build to house these one time aliens.

Our forefathers struggled all the way and made many sacrifices to build up this nation. What did these foreigners do to deserve their citizenship?

Is our citizenship that cheap, to be given away like goreng pisang panas?

  • Suspicious Man And His China Gang Loitering Outside House, Even Took Photo Of Unit Number

Suspicious Man And His China Gang Loitering Outside House, Even Took Photo Of Unit Number

Beware of this man, he and his china gang has been loitering around my area for a few days or maybe longer.

Few days ago, i opened my door and was shocked to see a medium built china man suddenly infront of my gate. I panicked and couldn’t locked my gate. He don’t seems to want to walk away, so i have to confront him to buy myself some time to lock up the gate. Abit taken aback when questioned, told me his friend stay here but perhaps wrong unit.

Same day at 1.30am, someone rang my doorbell and as he was looking down all the time, I couldnt see his face thru the door hole. Asked hub to check him out. He stood there for quite awhile and he contl with the door bell. The hub managed to see his face and asked what he wants and he ran away.

To my surprised, he returned the next morning around the same time at 1.30am. My dear sister who stay opposite my block found out and inform us. This aroused my suspicion and, thus, make me filed a police report.

Yesterday (Sun morning at 10am), the hub heard footsteps at the door and he went to peep. What shocked him was he saw this man taking a picture of my unit no. He opened the door and confronted him. He kept avoiding the question and kept saying his friend stay here and probably it was a wrong unit. Same excuses given by the other man I saw days ago. The hub questioned him and asked him to show what he has taken. He accidentally show his we chat group on his phone with my unit pic in it and their conversations.
At this time, I took the risk to take a photo of him and he scurried away.

When his photo was exposed, my daughter and elder son recalled that they chanced upon him few times within the premises. Son said 2 days ago, he was in the same lift with him and he was holding a carton box.

Again I make a police report, this time with his photo as evidence and I hope the policeman wouldn’t disapoint us again.

I plead with all my friends here to be vigilant of things happening around us and look out for this criminal gang.

*My dear pal, please feel free to share.
You know who you are and many many thanks for your concern 😘

  • Man Pierced By Screw That Was Deliberately Inserted Into Lemon Peels At Toa Payoh

Man Pierced By Screw That Was Deliberately Inserted Into Lemon Peels At Toa Payoh

Stomper Nick‘s foot was pierced by a screw that had been inserted into a lemon peel and placed at a service road in front of Block 113 Toa Payoh Lorong 1 at around 1pm yesterday (Jul 31).

In a telephone interview, he said that he then saw around 10 similar objects scattered around when he surveyed the area.

Nick told Stomp that he was walking his dogs in the HDB estate when he felt that he stepped on something sharp.

Upon investigation, he found that a 5cm screw had went through his sandal and pierced his left foot. He was bleeding following what happened.

Thereafter, two men staying at a ground floor HDB unit came to render assistance.

    Nick recounted what happened:

“Upon closer inspection, we found that the screw was deliberately inserted into a lemon peel and there were more scattered nearby on the road and some in the grass.

“Altogether we found about 10 of them.

“These have obviously been placed in such a way to puncture car tyres, but it is also extremely dangerous as people can step on them!

“There are a lot of families in the area and lots of children walk by as well.

“There is a playground just 10 metres or so away for crying out loud!

“Just to let everyone know that there are all kinds of sick people in this world, so take care of yourself and your kids and watch where you step.

“I’m in considerable pain, but otherwise fine for now.”

“I encourage anyone who lives or is in the area to be vigilant and make a police report if you see anything similar.”

The Stomper has seen a doctor to treat his wounds. He has received a Tetanus shot, some antibiotics and pain killers.

Nick has also lodged a police report over what happened.
