    Osman Sulaiman: Government Must Work For, Not Against, Singaporeans To Foster Nation Building

    The coming presidential election reserved for Malay candidates has divided the nation with some polarised views.

    Often enough, the PAP gov has been quick to accuse the alternatives as playing racial politics. But the mother of all racist policies originated and created by this gov.

    Our pride from being a multi-racial society, living side by side, co-existing happily is all but a facade that this gov would want us to believe.

    Its brand of politics is never about empowering the people but rather to divide us against each other.

    How else would we explain this?

    1. The existence of SAP schools where those who are not able to speak mandarin are not eligible

    2. The subtle exclusion of the Malay/Muslim citizens in the Navy through its hollow reasoning of not being able to accommodate space for halal diet.

    3. Its perverse reasoning that the society is not ready for a minority Prime Minister.

    4. The appalling act of discrimination through its policy to deny job opportunities for those wearing the tudung.

    5. We are further divided in schools through elitism and streaming of students at a young age.

    The society will never be able to progress as a nation until our leaders act for us. Not against us.

    Osman Sulaiman: Why Didn’t Presidential Wannabes Contest Past Presidential Elections?

    Halimah Yaacob indicates she may run for President. Second Chance boss Salleh Marican, and Bourbon Offshore Asia Chairman Farid Khan also wants to contest the coming Presidential Election.

    The three hopefuls have something in common. They are not Malays. It is ironic that the coming presidential election is reserved for a Malay candidate but so far, no Malays have come forward.

    Personally, I would prefer a Malay candidate to only be eligible but have no issue accepting these three hopefuls to contest.

    Im still more concern whether they are able to stand up and execute their roles if elected. This is crucial. We had ineffective Presidents before and it did more harm to the country and people for failing to carry out their duties.

    Im still wondering where these hopefuls were during the past open presidential elections? Why only when it is reserved for a Malay candidate do they come forward? Maybe they are self-defeating and have low self esteem to contest in an open-election knowing they will not stand a chance.

    If the above is right, then they are not fit to be a leader.

    Osman Sulaiman: No Hope Of PAP Malay MPs Speaking Up On Oxley Issue

    PM Lee is going to make a ministerial statement in parliament [today] regarding the allegations made by his siblings. Party whip has been lifted and PM Lee has urged all our MPs to question him robustly.

    I dont think there will be any meaningful questions from the PAP MPs. Who would question their superiors in the real world? So this ministerial statement is just nothing but a smoke screen to appear to be upfront.

    Halimah Yaacob has spoken and said that she hopes Oxley Road dispute will be ‘properly debated’.

    Who among those MPs will fire the first salvo? Definitely not the Malay PAP MPs. They are known to acquiesce to anything the PAP wanted even at the expense of the community.

    Instead of being the voice for the people, they are the voice of the PAP.

    I’ve long ago lost hope on ‘our representative’ to stand up for us. This is why I ventured into politics. Our voices are not heard in parliament often enough.

    I would put my hope more on the non Malay Mps to speak up. Our Malay PAP MPs are just too weak politically and emasculated to be fighting for us.

    Why Didn’t PAP Malay MPs And Ministers Defend Perkampungan Melayu Geylang Serai From Being Demolished?

    The house where LKY has stayed during his lifetime has so much interest that his son wanted to preserve it. Just one man.

    Geylang Serai Perkampungan Melayu where the whole of the Malay Community gathers, conduct events, congregate, shops and walk, was demolished without any fun-fare. No secret committee set up. Nothing.

    Not one of our Malay MPs stood up to preserve it.They even agreed to demolish it to make way for a new building.

    We deserve the kind of leaders we vote for. The Malays are weak politically because we have emasculated leaders trying to score political points with the PAP at the expense of the community.

    The dispute between Lee Hsien Loong (LHL) and his siblings is not uncommon. It centered around carrying out their dead father’s wish of demolishing Oxley Rise.

    In Islam, we have what we call ‘Amanah.’ Amanah is something placed on the shoulders of someone to carry out certain instructions to the best of our ability and fulfil the wishes of the dead as long as it doesnt transgress our religious doctrines.

    I believe we have heard of such incidents many times on the issue of not carrying out the ‘amanah’ someone placed on us. In this instance, it is LHL who is in the spotlight.

    The no-confidence vote by both LHL’s siblings is natural. We cannot expect a person who disrespect a dead man’s wish to hold big responsibilities like managing Singapore.

    If he cannot act justly in private, what can the people of Singapore expect on a bigger scale like managing a country? We already see how he has no qualms manipulating the system to benefit himself.

    The meritocratic society that he espouses is nothing but a facade to give hope to Singaporeans. Singapore crony-capitalism index shows how our meritocratic ideals have taken a back seat. And it is the people who suffer at the hands of an incompetent leader. Add to it, a morally bankrupt one.
