3 Anak Melayu Raih Kelulusan Kepujian Kelas Pertama Dari NUS

Tiga anak Melayu/Islam muncul sebagai antara lulusan cemerlang dari NUS tahun ini degan lulusan dengan ijazah Kepujian kelas pertama.

    DISIPLIN, PENGURUSAN MASA FAKTOR KEJAYAAN

Mentelah lagi, beliau pernah gagal memasuki universiti setelah meraih keputusan peringkat “A “yang kurang memuaskan.

“Pada ketika itu saya merasa sangat kecewa. Tetapi pada saat itu, keluarga dan rakan-rakan saya mendorong saya untuk meneruskan pelajaran. Bila saya masuk ke politeknik, saya mendapat tahu yang saya mula meminati bidang kejuruteraan,” ujarnya.

Peluang kedua itu tidak disia-siakan dan Khairul bakal berangkat ke Ecuador bulan depan untuk bertugas di salah sebuah syarikat minyak terbesar di dunia.

  • NUS Male Undergrad: Girlfriend Dumping Boyfriend During National Service Is A Serious Issue

NUS Male Undergrad: Girlfriend Dumping Boyfriend During National Service Is A Serious Issue

    A few years back~~~

Just a few months before my ORD, my friends in university warned me that my girlfriend was hanging out with a biz student. However, she denied all her wrong doings and guilt tripped me into thinking that I’m not a trustworthy boyfriend. I had to perform my ns duties then, how can I verify the truth? I discovered her cheating activities when I spied on her chat history. Apparently, she spent a night at the guy’s home after his birthday party and did unforgivable stuffs.

It was then, I realised that this relationship was beyond salvation, hence I took a hard decision to cut off all contacts with her. Obviously, this was not an easy decision after all. I fell from a high spot and fractured my arm during SOC because the pain of betrayal kept my focus diluted. I cried so hard while being evacuated to the medical centre. I felt that I F… up my life, I never cried so badly for a girl before in my life.

Instead of questioning my sudden disappearance , she showed no concern at all and allowed me to drift away completely from her life. This made me knew that my decision is right.

    Fast forward to now~~~

Occasionally, I still see her at the biz canteen hanging out with that guy. To be honest, till today I am still angry over that bastard rich kid. It motivates me to work harder to be rich, so that I won’t lose another girlfriend to a rich kid again!

  • NUS Undergraduate Marissa Fuad A Rising Star With AIA

NUS Undergraduate Marissa Fuad A Rising Star With AIA

She is only 21, but the final-year business student at the National University of Singapore qualified for AIA’s rising star club in June.

She also received the Top Sales award during her summer internship at AIA last year.

Miss Marissa Fuad puts in about 20 hours a week during her school term and earns between $1,500 and $2,500 a month.

During school holidays, she invests up to 50 hours a week and earns $4,500 to $5,000 a month.

Miss Marissa got interested in financial planning in her first year of university, after attending a career talk by SP-Win, an authorised representative of AIA.

“You learn about the impact you can have on people when you help them with their claims and savings,” she said.

She found that she connected with people her age and was able to explain financial planning to them.

“At the university level, most students do not know much about financial planning, but as someone in this line, you are the go-to person when people have questions,” she said.

    SACRIFICES

Juggling her studies with her work came with some sacrifices.

Miss Marissa said she did not have time to indulge in her favourite Korean dramas and Game of Thrones TV series.

Last year, she gave up going to South Korea for an exchange programme as part of her undergraduate business course because it would take place at the same time as her internship programme at AIA.

An AIA spokesman said that agents who are also undergraduates help in getting their peers to understand the importance of financial planning from a young age.

She added: “Some (student consultants) have really excelled and even received commendations, recognitions and promotions to financial services manager (positions) even before they graduate.”

While AIA declined to reveal specific figures, it confirmed that its number of agents who are still students is increasing.

Ms Wong Sze Keed, chief agency officer of AIA Singapore, said: “The job flexibility, strong mentorship and the AIA brand are some key reasons they have cited for joining us.”

Sex blogger Alvin Tan has landed himself in hot water again following yet another sedition probe against him for postings on his Facebook page where he had also superimposed pig snouts on the faces of several Malaysian leaders, including the prime minister.

Astro Awani reported that police have launched an investigation against Tan, who had skipped bail and fled to the United States to seek asylum.

Tan had previously been charged along with his former partner Vivian Lee under the same Act for an offensive and controversial Ramadan greeting the couple had put up on Facebook in July last year.

“Members of the public have lodged reports against Alvin Tan. Upon this, we initiated an investigation under the Sedition Act,” deputy federal CID chief Datuk Amar Singh was quoted as saying.

In a Facebook posting on September 26, Tan had slammed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, calling the latter a “coward” for the recent sedition dragnet which he called an effort to “cling on to the top post”.

He had also superimposed pig snouts on the images of Najib, his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail and Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.

In a show of defiance, Tan also tagged the five, telling their supporters to not bother alerting them of the “sedition” nature of the posting.

“Come jail me, please!!! Don’t bother tagging your leaders here just to alert them of “sedition” happening over here. I’ve done it beforehand to save you the hassle,” the posting read.

He had also likened Khalid, the nation’s top cop to Germany’s SS chief Heinrich Himmler, who was responsible for building Nazi concentration camps and had directed the killing of some millions of Jews during the Second World War.

“Yes, Khalid Abu Bakar, you’re like the Nazi SS Commander Heinrich Himmler, no less, and let me tell you why: because you abused your power just because someone called you names you didn’t like. You’re a bully, a coward.”

“Zahid Hamidi, you’re the closest thing to true evil, and your day will come. I promise. There will be no mercy (tip: google ‘Qaddafi’),” he said.

Khalid had earlier vowed to go all out to look for Alvin despite the fact that he was in the US, promising to search every “worm hole” for the 26-year-old fugitive.

Tan, the IGP said, was rude and could not be forgiven because he had shamed some Malaysian leaders with his offensive pictures and status posts on his Facebook account.

“He thinks he can run. But every country has its own regulations and we will not give up looking for him,” Khalid was quoted as saying by Utusan Malaysia.

The former law student at the National University of Singapore, and his then partner Vivian Lee, first came under the spotlight after uploading raunchy sex postings on their blog in 2012.

But it was their bak kut teh posting during Ramadan last year that landed them in hot water, and even in jail briefly – after they were charged under the Sedition Act and the Film Censorship Act.

Tan violated his bail conditions while on a supposed working trip to Singapore and is now on Interpol’s wanted list.

After lying low for a while, he recently emerged on social media to make known his plans for asylum in the US and is believed to be in Los Angeles, California.

Tan told The Malaysian Insider recently that his decision to flee his homeland was to escape the government’s “tyranny” as well as the “ignorance” of ordinary Malaysians.

  • LATEST: Chinese Man Call Malays “Stupid and Poor”, “Extremist”

Thanks to a vigilant Singaporean, Rilek1Corner was alerted again on another racist and offensive comment by a male Chinese who goes by the name of ‘Issac Teck Shuean‘.

Issac who stated on his Facebook profile to be residing in Singapore and born in Johor, had called Malays “stupid and poor” and “extremist“.

Last month, another male Singaporean Chinese man, Peter Hu lodged a police complaint to say that he did not post an offensive comment on Muslims. In his attempt to cover up his insensitive remark, Peter Hu claimed that his account was “hacked”. In another posting he claimed that the image was “doctored”. Later on, he said that he was unaware of the offensive posting existence until his friends had informed him about it.

So which is the truth? One story, different information coming from the same guy.

Rilek1Corner was informed that Peter Hu who is openly gay, an avid PinkDot SG supporter and an LGBT activist, had previously argued with several anti-PinkDot activists in a Facebook group called ‘We are against PinkDot’.

The police are currently investigating this case.

Another female Singapore Chinese woman named ‘Kim’ who has an Instagram account ‘@kimmeeoow’ also said offensive remarks on Muslims and Malays.

She claimed her Instagram account was hacked. But preliminary investigations from netizens and tip-off from her friends have revealed that none of her social media accounts was hacked because she was posting as usual after she made those offensive comments. The police are also currently investigating this case.

Also in the hall of shame, we have Amy Cheong who was an employee of NTUC was terminated due to her tactless insensitive remarks on Malays.

Her insensitive comments have deeply hurt the Malay community and left a lasting impact thus far.

    EDITOR”S NOTE

Thank you Abdul Malik Mohammed Ghazali for the contribution.

While we understand offensive comments made by non Malays/Muslims such as Peter Hu, Amy Cheong, Kimmeeoow, and now Issac Teck Shuean are not true reflection of majority, we the minority, cannot help but notice the increasing number of individuals who are unhappy towards both the Malay and Muslim communities.

Our advice: Keep those thoughts to yourself. Don’t share it on social media because chances are, you will be featured here. And the rest will be history.

Racism is not confined to one race – all communities need to join hands to end it. It is an issue ignored, downplayed and denied.

Let’s move forward. Let’s end racial prejudice and religious discrimination.
