    Yasir Qadhi: LGBT Movement Hypocritical

We learn from the Quran that when the Prophet Lūt was preaching to his people, eventually his people threatened him: “Expel the people of Lūt from our town! They are a group that seek to purify us” [al-Naml; 56].

Alas! History always repeats itself, and the way matters are heading now, I fear it is only a matter of time before mobs begin to gather, and legislation is passed, to ban people who believe in the standard morality of sexuality.

This vicious onslaught after the Orlando massacre against people who wish to affirm what used to be the mainstream Abrahamic understanding of morality exemplifies the intolerance and bigotry of the very folks who would accuse others of intolerance and bigotry.

Where is the freedom to believe and practice what I choose? We have agreed to abide by the conditions of American liberalism: to live and let live. We have agreed that anyone who preaches hatred and violence should be marginalized and stopped if possible.

I agree that I have no right to force my positions and opinions on you.

Will you, who used to champion for your personal freedoms and ask us to simply let you be, allow me that same privilege?

  • Ainon Mohd: Berfikir Gaya Nabi

    Ainon Mohd: Berfikir Gaya Nabi

    Apa pula critical thinking?

Secara mudahnya adalah, ‘i am right, and you are wrong’.

You cannot dig a hole in a different place by digging the same hole deeper – Edward De Bono

    2. Kita mula mengaitkan nama orang lain.
    3. Kita mudah menyalahkan dan menuduh. judge people.
    4. Kita menjadi sangat defensif.
    5. Kita sebenarnya mengusutkan lagi masalah tu.
    6. Timbul pula masalah baru.
    7. Rosakkan hubungan yang harmoni.

    Critical Thinking

Tradisi critical thinking datang dari Socrates, plato, aristotles. mereka mencipta seni berdebat. Kita berbangga pula menayangkan kehebatan siapa lebih jauh lebih hebat berdebat? Hujah siapa paling hebat? Allah.

    Nabi Muhammad S.A.W bersabda;

(HR. Abu Dawud dalam Kitab al-Adab, hadits no 4167. Dihasankan oleh al-Albani dalam as-Shahihah [273] as-Syamilah)

Jadi, adakah kita sebenarnya pemikir generasi Aristotle? Kita bermegah dengan kehebatan siapa hujahnya paling hebat? Sedangkan Rasulullah saw semasa hayatnya tak pernah berdebat. Allah.

Mari kita susuri sejarah Nabi Muhammad saw. Hebatnya Rasulullah saw. Baginda tak pernah menyalahkan orang lain, tak pernah menuduh dan menghukum pendosa dan pesalah. Baginda tak pernah berdebat melawan hujah-hujah orang yang melemparkan segala bentuk kritikan buruk dan caci maki. Allah.

Jadi, bagaimana cara Rasulullah saw berfikir dalam menyelesaikan masalah?

Rasulullah saw tak buat post mortem selepas perang Uhud.

Kita bukan sahaja membuka aibnya, malah kita membunuh psikologi dalamannya kerana menyekat dirinya memberikan buah fikiran bersama.

Baginda tak memilih pun hanya bertanya pendapat pada sahabatnya semata-mata. Baginda mengumpulkan semua jenis golongan meskipun golongan bawahan.

  • Noor Mastura: Muslims Must Mirror Prophet Muhammad’s Graciousness Towards Jews

Noor Mastura: Muslims Must Mirror Prophet Muhammad’s Graciousness Towards Jews

So yesterday i received an interesting phone call. Apparently, one of my previous post on asking if there were any Mosques or places in Singapore which can spare or share their space with a Jewish community (so they can have their sessions) caused an uproar with a number of Muslims.

    Noor Mastura On Jews Prayings

I cant even begin to express the emotions i felt. An uproar?! The argument, amongst many others was ‘Jews hate us and are our enemies so why would this Muslim girl post such a thing and support them?’

I want to shout ‘backward thinking’ right now but – backward where??? This hate mongering against Jews or any religion for that matter did not exist during the Prophet’s time. Yes there is a verse in the Quran that states “…take not the Jews as your friends..” BUT there is a context as well in which that verse was sent and surely by now everyone who considers him or herself a Muslim will know that the Quran is all about context and you cannot cherry pick verses out of that context and apply them anydamnwhere you please.

‘The Jews want to kill all Muslims’ rhetoric needs to stop. Please tell me what different are you from the people who say ‘All Muslims are terrorist’??? Really. Think about this. How are these 2 rhetorics any different? Oh wait, you have higher ground as a Muslim? Because your religion is The Truth? Well let me share a quote from your beloved Prophet when the Muslims had upper hand in Medina.

“Beware! Whoever is cruel and hard on a non-Muslim or minority, or curtails their rights, or burdens them with more than they can bear, or takes anything from them against their free will, I will personally complain against them on the Day of Judgment.”

How’s that for starters? Of course, there is so many more where that came from. And as for Muslims and Jews have always been fighting? And that its always been like that? Where did you get that from? No. This historical lie on a broken record played by haters needs to be destroyed.

The Prophet was the biggest interfaith advocate of his time and i daresay to date. Religious autonomy and the freedom of religious assembly was obligatory for all under his watch. He was adamant that no place of worship be destroyed or harmed. Convenants and constitutions were forged and sealed to ensure these rights.

When 60 Christian delegates from Najran came to his mosque and their time of prayer came, THEY PRAYED IN HIS MOSQUE. (And that is ONE teeny tiny example)

I dont know about you but i have lived in a country where for the longest time our diverse race and religion is something we are proud of. Unfortunately, events around the world and the speed of technology means you have access to so much hate that is going around elsewhere. But dont you dare bring that on my homeground. This is Singapore. This is our turf. And we should do whatever it takes to protect it from hate and ignorance.

When people say evil things about Muslims, you ask them “have you even met a Muslim in your life?? Or speak to one??” And its true. Usually these people who paint the brush on all because of a minor few are those who cant be bothered to step out and meet a Muslim or go to their mosque to actually find out what the hell is going on. No. They sit behind a screen and willingly feed themselves with every news source and hang out with similar minded ignorant experts and assume that has to be it.

Have you met a Jew? Sat with one? Have you met a Jewish father of two beautiful little girls who went for a one month programme in a different country just to seek Muslims to understand about their religion so he could forge a better relationship with them and educate his Jewish community? And while he was on the trip, his youngest girl fell and broke her arm and asked daddy to come home but he had to tell his little girl that he had important work to finish though it broke his heart. I have. I saw it with my own eyes.

These are people who have nothing to do with the war or the politics. People like you and me. You cannot claim to love the teachings of your Prophet if your love is conditional. Or forget love. Maybe that’s too high a level for mere humans like us. But basic humanity? Surely that is not too far off?

We Muslims really need to step up if we are going to continue calling ourselves Muslims and calling Islam a religion of peace. It cant be peaceful if the self appointed gatekeepers are hell bent on choosing who deserves a (FREE)ticket and who doesnt.

I’ll end this rant with my favourite poem by Adam Kelwick and hopefully, it inspires us all to love a little harder.

    I sat with a Jew.
Do you feel upset that I sat with a Jew?
And with a Christian, does that unnerve you?
What about an atheist? that angers too?
A gay? An alcoholic? What shall you do?
One sufi here, a shi’a there or two?
With the brotherhood and the salafi crew.

Well let me explain what the Prophet Muhammad would do…
He’d welcome everybody, black, white or blue.
And the house of Islam has big doors, so true.
With invites for them all, not just me and you.
Even if they reject, their rights are still due.
We all need bigger hearts, if only we knew.

  • Zulfikar Shariff: Islam Is Different From The West

Zulfikar Shariff: Islam Is Different From The West

One major difference between Islam and western civilization is that we have a specific, clear reference point.

    A perfected ideal.

We know what we are heading towards.

And our progress is not based on time but of character, values, behavior.

The ideal is on being the best human we can be.

Western civilization moves through time in search of an elusive enlightened man.

It builds, create material, develop wealth and point to these developments as the fruit of progress.

Man is debased from his higher, noble virtues for primal, unrestrained materiality.

That is not our world. We do not reject material development.

But that is not the measure of our progress.

    Islam has a clear ideal.

We know what we are heading to.

We do not assume time or matter to be a yardstick.

Man today is not necessarily better than we were 100 years ago.

The criteria is not technological advancement or material.

Our reference point is not an uncertain future.

The noblest, the one with the most excellent virtues…

Whose values and character we emulate lived 1,400 years ago.

    That is our reference point.

We progress by becoming more and more like him.

  • This Is Islam: Muslims Must Emulate Prophet Muhammad’s Graciousness

This Is Islam: Muslims Must Emulate Prophet Muhammad’s Graciousness

If u are agitated or angered by the picture of the youth who showed his middle finger to the Quran n mocked Muslim prayers, remember the story of a man who tugged Prophet Muhammad’s (Peace Be Upon Him) shirt..

The Prophet once took a loan from a Jew in order to help a group of villagers who were in financial difficulty..A few days BEFORE the promised date of settlement, the Jew came to the Prophet while he was with his companions. When the Jew got close to the Prophet, he tugged the Prophet’s shirt holding him by the neck and shouted in the Prophet’s face “I didnt know from amongst the family of Banu Abdul Muttalib are those who would delay their repayment of loans!”
Saidina Umar stood up and was about to beat up the Jew when Prophet Muhammad stopped and said “We do not need this from you O Umar. In fact I need you to counsel me to repay the loan in a good way n for u to advise him to claim his loan to me in a gracious manner! Now please help me to bring him to where I have prepared the amount to repay him n u are to add to the amount that I am repaying him for the trauma that you have caused him from your action!”

Saidina Umar then acceeded to Prophet’s request and brought the Jewish man to where the location of the repayment is. Along the way the Jew asked Saidina Umar “O Umar do you know who I am? I am so and so”. Saidina Umar then said “Arent u the famous scholar of the Jewish community? Why did u act like that towards the Prophet?” The Jewish scholar said “I have observed many sign of Prophethood in Muhammad but I have yet to observe one sign with my own eyes! That sign is the more ignorance n evil is thrown at him, the more gracious he shall be and today I have witnessed it.. Bear witness O Umar that I testify that there is no God but Allah n I bear witness that Muhammad (PBUH) is His messenger..
