    Parable of the bull n Muslim Unity

    With regards to the recent sorry episode, Muslims can learn from an ancient Arab parable. Will inshaAllah make this as brief as poss. I beg your indulgence as the parable is central to the lessons for us going forward.

    Once there was three black Bulls n a white one living in an open field surrounded by thick jungle where many wolves reside. Though life was difficult, they managed to keep themselves safe from the wolves by protecting each other n having each other’s backs.

    One day the three black Bulls had a mtg. They said the white bull is problematic for them. Because he’s white he’s easy target for the wolves at night. As such we keep on having to protect him. So they decided to have nothing to do with the black bull.

    That same night, the wolves attacked. They found it different fr previous nights. Less unity. They quickly figured out the white bull was boycotted. So they ganged up and attacked the lone white bull. Pretty soon they managed to overpower it, leading to its demise and a meal for the wolves.

    The next night the wolves returned. Now there’s only three Bulls left. Although they put up strong resistance after several hours of struggle one of the Bulls fell and the wolves managed to devour it.

    The following night only two Bulls remained. Though they put up a valiant fight they were exhausted soon after. One bull fell fr sheer exhaustion n the wolves pounced to devour him.

    The next night there was only one bull left. It was an easy matter for the wolves. Before he met his violent end, the bull made a statement we all can learn from. He said , “I didn’t die today. I died the day when I allowed the White bull to die and did nothing to protect him.”

    Bros n sis we need to learn from this wise parable. The Bulls represent us Muslims as a community. The wolves represent Shaitaan. We may have differences among ourselves. Oftentimes Shaitaan amplifies these differences. To an extent we consider the one outside our jemaah as the enemy. Some wayward individuals even see it fit to collaborate with outside forces in order to hurt the ‘other side’. And celebrate when we see the ‘other side’ being persecuted by forces outside our ranks.

    The thing is the one that benefits is Shaitaan. And we must realise Shaitaan’s appetite is vociferous. Today we celebrate when their sheikh is attacked. Tomorrow our sheikh will be next. And then us and our families. Because Shaitaan will not rest until all of bani Adam is thrown into the hellfire.

    So going forward we really need to wisen up. We are Muslims. In certain issues that does not reach core Aqeedah, we can have differences. We are One Ummah. It doesn’t mean we are carbon copies of one another. We can hold differing views.

    But our stance is that if Shaitaan attacks one of us he’s attacking all of us. We should then close ranks and defend the right of our fellow Muslim.

    Instead of feeding more fuel to the flame n stand back gleefully when the ‘other side’ is being devoured by Shaitaan.

    Final word. And this is a reminder for me first n foremost. We should all watch our rhetoric. Some words come loaded with venom. These are meant primarily to label n vilify.

    Moving forward I tell myself first and then remind my bros n sis to cool down the rhetoric. Avoid words and actions that drive a wedge between us.

    We are Muslim brothers. We may have differences.

    But we are one Ummah.

    Yesterday had tea with an old dear friend. He Juz returned Fr a trip to Cambodia where he was attempting to help the Cham Muslims there.

    Long story short. Some of the things he told me was shocking. How a person who encloaks himself with religiosity handles funds meant for orphans and madrasah.

    Essentially a con artiste. Inter Alia he attempts to get unsuspected SG donors to buy land ostensibly to build madrasahs orphanages etc. Upon further investigation the exact land plot has already been donated as waqf. Money given to sponsor a slaughter goat as meal for the orphans, when checked, the orphans were eating nothing more than rice n curry with hardly any meat. The plan was to engage an English teacher to teach these orphans some English n other skills that would equip them with at least basic skills. When asked to interview the candidate (his sister) it was discovered she could hardly speak English at all.

    There were many other instances.

    I share this article coz it serves as a cautionary tale. There are those who Encloak themselves in religious clothes. But have hearts of wolves.

    Once Amirul Mumineen Umar was meeting a sahabah. He asked whether there was some state affairs to discuss. When told it was a social visit he actually put out the light from a lantern. Because it was lit using resources from state funds.

    Subhanallah. Such outstanding egs of waraa’ – scrupulousness.

    Bros n sis we need to be careful in this age of so much fitaan. We really do not want to be bamboozled when we hand over our money. We must take reasonable care it goes to parties we can trust.

    I know this brother personally. His character is beyond reproach. He’s planning to go again inshaAllah early next year. So InshaAllah I will be handing over my money to him. At least I can be assured inshaAllah it would reach the beneficiaries. If u want to, pl PM me. InshaAllah I will hand over 100% of what I receive to him. There will be no ‘admin charges’.

    Final word. When commenting on the City Hrvest thing, a reminder we should bear in mind the religious sensitivities of our Christian friends.

    Syed Danial: Damanhuri Abas Has The Moral Courage To Be Upfront On Issues Affecting The Malay-Muslim Community

    The GRC concept has attained its goal of ensuring minority representation in parliament. In the sense there are roughly a proportionate representation of the SG population in parliament that belongs to the minority races.

    But that’s where it ends.

    For decades now, we see the phenomenon of minority candidates riding on the coattails of ministers n getting into parliament. Oftentimes not even having to go through the baptism of fire of the hustings during election, as they are part of uncontested wards.

    Before election, they promise the world. They will fight for this n that rights. They will champion our causes. They will be our voices in parliament.

    And when they finally get there, you see a completely different reality. They do not fight for our rights. When we start pushing for them, eg the hijab, we get the tiring response of they are doing ‘all they can’ behind closed doors. The community needs to be patient. There are other interests at stake.’ The good ol song and dance.

    They have become effectively the MPs that champions rights. But not our rights. They serve with distinction. For the Prime Minister. And their party.

    To an extent they no longer fulfill the functional role that they’ve been elected to do. They r there not to fight for our rights. They are there to explain govt policies to the community. Essentially they r there as the govt’s representatives to the people. Not our representatives to fight for our causes.

    And it’s not just the backbencher MPs. The greatest fulfiller of this role is the Minister in Charge of Muslim affairs. Dr Yaacob has consistently shown when push comes to shove, he takes the position of the govt.

    Not the community.

    He should be renamed Minister in Charge of Explaining Government Policies to Muslims.

    And then there’s the second Malay full Minister. Mr Masagos has also shown consistently he’s there to do the bidding of the govt. So he was used to make policy pronouncements that are beneficial to the govt. But are against the wishes of the community. Case in point joining the coalition to bomb Iraq and Syria. The community is against Islamic State. But there’s a HUGE difference between being against IS and being part of a coalition that bombs more Muslim countries. A vast majority in the MMC is against joining. Yet Minister Masagos toes the govt line. He explains govt polices, rather than champion our causes.

    I could go on n on. But I think the point is made.

    Our minority MPs represent the govt and their party.

    Not us.

    Then comes bro Damanhuri.

    He has come across as a candidate who has the moral courage to speak his mind on issues close to the hearts of Malay Muslims in SG. His rhetoric captures our imagination. Beyond just speeches, he has an excellent trek record of service to the community.

    So he comes across as genuine.

    The real deal.

    And he has redefined for us the role of minority representation in a GRC. The minority MP is there to voice the concerns and interests of the community. To champion our causes to the govt. And he hits the hammer on the head when he says we need to put such people in parliament. Else, we can shout till we’re hoarse outsider parliament. It will just be ignored. Worse still, token statements of
    Reassurances given that they would ‘work behind close doors’ to solve the issues.

    It is my fervent desire bro Daman gets elected. And I hope residents of MarsilingYT rise to the occasion.

    In the longer term, I think Pandora’s box has been opened. I call it the ‘Damanhari effect’.

    Henceforth, that will be the prototype of the archetypical minority MP.

    One with outstanding credentials of service to the community. Not Juz hi academic ability but completely out of touch with the community. We have such people in parliament now.

    Beyond a trek record of service, the moral courage to fight for our rights.

    To be our champions in parliament.

    Not there to merely explain policies to us

    The Malay Muslim MPs should make their stance on the hijab issue clear. From both the PAP n WP.

    I must say the only opposition Malay Muslim MP was the only one with the moral courage to make his stance unequivocally clear during the LGBT issue during last year’s Ramadhan. May Allah azzawajal Bless him n Reward him profusely. From the ruling party we have the Minister in Charge of Muslim Affairs making the statement mosques shouldn’t take sides in an issue Allah azzawajal Himself has taken sides. Shocking, to say the least. It doesn’t help that the establishment ulema were silent in docility when this was played out in real time.

    Our current MPs should bear in mind we may be witnessing as we speak this notion that if we throw our hat hook line n sinker with official govt stand we may juz end up being considered a sellout and a political liability when elections draw near.

    They plan. And Allah azzawajal Plans. And Allah is the Best of planners.

    May Allah azzawajal Grant us leaders who would serve His Deen.

    Syed Danial: Challenge The Pink Dot Ideology, Engage In Civil Way And Help Those Struggling With Same-Sex Attraction

    Dear friends (and various assortment of ‘spies’ from the other side),

    We should offer thanks to God Almighty for all the Favours and Mercies He has bestowed upon us.

    Although we are pleased with PM Lee’s remarks, we should not pat ourselves on the back. His statement is actually doubled-edged. And it is instructive of govt thinking on the matter. The operative phrase here is that SG is ‘still a conservative society’. And his remarks that it’s ‘changing’ offers sobering reminder not to rest on our laurels.

    I think right now it’s important to act strategically. Our opponents are adept at media manipulation. The biggest mistake we can do right now is to appear too aggressive. They would play the victims card. We should therefore continue our activism in a civil way. Even polite. And we challenge the ideology. Not individual persons. We extend a helping hand of mercy to those struggling with same sex attraction.

    There’s talk of wanting to ‘gatecrash’ Pinkdot to distribute pamphlets or carry placards etc.

    My view is that would be a mistake. It would just make them look like victims.

    Methinks we continue to engage in a civil way both online and off.

    And let’s not rest on our laurels. We should do as much as poss to ensure that society does not change. And remain conservative.

    We do what we can. God will do what we cannot.
