MUIS Has ‘Grand Strategy’ To Move Society Towards Liberal Islam

    Alami musa

If I’m not mistaken, Last Sabtu morning, I saw Ambassador Alami Musa.

We were both jogging. In opposite directions. Me towards East Coast. He was probably on his way back.

I don’t know whether that’s a metaphor. For the way we envision the direction of the Muslim Ummah…

Bro Alami is my Muslim brother. So I need to be careful what I say. As Muslims, we judge by what is apparent.

And what is apparent to me was that during his tenure as MUIS head, the organisation went decidedly on a Liberal bent.

It was a bold social experiment, probably done as a bulwark against terrorism against the backdrop of the JI arrests. There was clearly a movement to present a ‘version’ of Islam that is palatable to Liberal ideas. So a plan was established to use MUIS to push the Liberal agenda. No effort and money were spared. They got top Liberal ‘scholars’ to our shores – even Ali Asghar Engineer, the chap who coined the term Liberal Islam. Then scholars from Jaringan Liberal Islam from Indonesia was roped in, and MUIS even published a booklet filled with writings of Liberal scholars. Then Asatizahs doing their PhD were sent to a hub of Liberal Islam in Indonesia. Then MUIS came up with the 10 points for an ideal Muslim community, with ideas of secularism and pluralism being pushed. Then there was the tie-up with Hartford Seminary and sending MUIS officials there, presumably so that there can be ‘bridges of understanding’ with the seminary. Isn’t the primary function of a seminary to train Christians to do proselytization? Is there no other place to send MUIS officials?

Then there was the watering down of the syllabus of Youth and Kids Alive. There is ittle emphasis on absolutely critical issues like classical Tawheed. Kids are taught subjects like How to be Muslim in SG. So an intelligent Muslim child goes to these part-time classes in our mosques. He is not given a strong grounding in classical Islam. He goes to university.

And he is ripe for the picking of the Liberals that flood academia.

We now hear that Ambassador Alami has joined the Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS). And he heads a team that includes a former MUIS officical active in the Reading Group.

It is a bold social experiment. Because it has as it’s goal to move the Muslim community towards a more Liberal stance. And this is done probably at the behest of Minister-in-charge of Muslim affairs. It is an ambitious undertaking. Because the Muslim community, no matter how much faults we have, are still ideologically very much conservative.

Alhamdulillah. Allah azzawajal is Protecting the Aqeedah of the Muslim community here. After more than a decade of trying, the bold social experiment has failed. And failed miserably. Even the self-identified liberal Farish Noor has concluded that there is very little traction of Liberal Islam in the masses. All over SEA. Including SG.

I write this as a sincere attempt for Ambassador Alami and others to think long and hard before carrying on with this obstinate obsession of trying to push a Liberal Islam agenda.

Because it is causing friction within the Muslim community here. Already some MPs are voicing out their discomfort.

And subhanallah. The recent ‪#‎wearwhite‬ episode makes it really clear that the Muslim community here is conservative. And they are crying out for true leadership in the Malay-Muslim community.

So when a few like-minded brothers – led by a courageous young Ustaz – decided to do something because they were uncomfortable with the way SG society is heading, the response was overwhelming.

Many are uncomfortable wuth, for eg, the movement to mainstream homosexuality in SG. That’s why there was strong support to wear white for the first day of Ramadhan.

To be sure, the Minister and MUIS did what they could to foil the movement. Wearwhite was denied the open venue of a stadium. No matter. Muslims could use the mosque to voice their support of a return to fitrah, and a rejection of the mainstreaming of homosexuality.

Even that was denied wear white. The Minister-in-charge of Muslim affairs made that statement that mosques must be neutral and not take a stand. Huh? The mosque should not take a stand against something that is clearly against Islam? Something that is heinous in the eyes of Allah azzawajal?

But Alhamdulillah. Allah azzawajal is the Best of Planners. If wear white is restricted any physical space, they went into the virtual space. Subhanallah. So many sent pictures of support by uploading their pictures in white. Entire families wore white. There was a family who celebrated a new-born, and they all wore white. Mosques became seas of white. SG Muslims from as far as Alaska sent in pictures to lend their support to the movement. Then the Christians also lent their support, with entire congregations wearing white in the thousands.

We ask Mr Alami and his new team in RSIS to please consider that the Msulim community is still very much conservative. And we are no longer content on being the silent majority. The sleeping giant has awakened, insha Allah.

If we see more Liberal islam ideology being shoved down our throats, we will react. And we will make sure our voices are heard loud and clear.

So let’s be clear. If there is any friction in the community, it is because the minority, led by an elite bent on altering the status quo, is pushing on with theis obstinate obsession of changing the very fabric of the Malay Muslim community.

It is ill-advised. It is foolhardy.

Ultimately, it is very unpopular with the masses.

And would be the ultimate vote-loser.

    Wallahualam. Barakallahufeek.

  • Wearwhite Ready to Help People Grappling With Same-Sex-Attraction

    syed danial wearwhite

This evening I met someone for the first time.

I received a msg from the wearwhite folks earlier in the day, requesting me to meet up with a person who was asking for help with Same Sex Attraction (SSA) my task was to befriend and recommend him to other agencies for follow-up.

He recounted his early years of grappling with SSA. It’s the classic story of an absent father figure and a domineering mother. Growing up, he too suffered from being bullied.

Amazingly, he had the force of will to not immediately succumb to the attraction. He read up and researched the issue, finding out a lot about it. It helped him grapple with the SSA, finding solace and comfort through worship and spirituality.

He’s a strong advocate of the view that SSA is primarily due to socialisation issues, not inborn. We were then met with a guy fr the entertainment industry, who recounted incidents whereby people he knew with SSA returning to fitrah, the natural disposition inherent in humanity. All he did was put the hashtag ‪#‎wearwhite‬ on his FB pg. they Came to him, he connected them to others and they too returned to fitrah.

They plan. And God plans. And God is the best of planners.

I believe tonight’s gathering was planned by God. To make people of very varied backgrounds and interests, come together with the intent of helping humanity.

I speak to all of us here. We are reaching out to one and all, regardless of your religion or race. If you are battling with SSA, and are looking for help, go to the wearwhite page, make contact. They can help you get in touch with sincere people who have gone through what you are going through. They have gone through the darkness and have seen the light. They are more than willing to help.

    You can also PM me.

I make a special request. Can all here please share this posting on your walls? Wearwhite is here for you.

Come back to fitrah. Come back to the natural disposition and inner purity that God has created you with.

  • WEAR WHITE ON TAUBAHCALL DAY: 1st Day of Ramadhan – 28 June 2014

    Ustaz Noor Deros

    Assalamualaikum wr wb,

Bismillah, walhamdulillah, the blessed month of Ramadan is just around the corner, if Allah wills, it will descend on the night of 28th of June around 7pm+.

We ask Allah that He allow us to be among those who will be blessed with His pardon & mercy in that month of rahmah and maghfirah. Amin.

Yet, it seems that there is another group of people who are also looking forward to that day. That very same date and time (5pm-7pm) was chosen by the PINK DOT activists (Lesbian,Gay,Bisexuals & Transexual activists and symphatisers) to organise their biggest event ever. They will come together in thousands to make a call to the Singaporean society to accept LGBT individuals (of course together with their lifestyle) without any kind of discrimination, intolerance nor judgement.

It is important to note here that it is through such nuanced events that the idea, philosophy and lifestyle of LGBT is subtly promoted and normalised, most of the time through the call to accept the VEHICLE (the LGBT individuals).

Oh Muslims! The gates of heavens and mercy will be opened in Ramadan, we do not want It to be blocked by our sins and our inaction towards munkar.

Muslims and straight-minded human beings must stand up and state our stand clearly.

No, not even as a response to this or that party, what more a reaction, but as an education first and foremost to our fellow Muslim brothers and sisters out there who still think that the LGBT lifestyle is a personal right and that the Quranic and Prophetic guidance on the LGBT issue is boundlessly flexible and ever-open to “progressive” interpretations.

For the sake of our collective spiritual, mental, emotional, social & physical health we have to MAKE CLEAR WHAT IS EVIL AND PROHIBIT IT. Be it through a small one time event or mega ones, collectively or group based. Whats important is that it must be continuous and ever present.

This is of course not a new call nor a unique one, this is just another of that small yet continuous calls. We have to keep them coming.

PERGAS have stated our stand, may Allah reward them for that, and I believe that MUIS already have something wise and farsighted in mind, many of us are waiting for that something with good opinion, but waiting is just another excuse to avoid commitment and responsibility, no, waiting is not enough, we, the people on the ground have the right and responsibility to do and say something.

    SUGGESTIONS :

In my discussions with many muslims about this issue I managed to gather some good suggestions, these are some of them :

    – Organise an easy, simple, yet clear and easily viral event such as WEAR WHITE DAY ON THE FIRST OF RAMADAN.

Together with this, all/some of the mosque in Singapore – on the first of ramadan especially – should deliver a clear call to taubah, explaining the concept of fitrah, freedom & sexuality in Islam.

In my opinion, this is the most viable, I and my friends will take this on, you are invited to lend a hand. Please contact me if you are interested.

    – Veterans and experienced Mega Maulid/Islamic Events organisers especially the lead and crowdpulling asatizahs should come together and organise a mega program on the first of ramadan, maybe a mega terawih session in a stadium. FOR THE LOVE OF THE PROPHET S.A.W. We will give our support.

    – Short videos stating our stand on this issue as Muslims living in Singapore. (This is a must)

    – Continuous series of talks and seminars on Islam and the LGBT. (Such programs have started, but we need more of it)

    – Talks on Islamic Worldview/ Islamic View of Existence. (This is the most important)

Oh Muslims! Our amal ma’ruf nahi munkar is never and should never be restricted to only Muslims. If your non-muslim neighbour tries to kill an innocent life in front of you what do you do? Harm should not be restricted to physical, for we muslims strongly believe in the reality of spiritual harm.

Oh Muslims! We have been fighting about petty issues for too long, Isn’t it high time for us to come together for something that is common between us?

Come come! Let us all together make taubah!

Scholars should make taubah of their muteness and inaction!

Those who have fallen into the pit of LGBT lifestyle should make taubah of their transgression!

Those of us who think that we are clean and are guarenteed salvation because we are religious, should make the most istighfar! For that is the worse kind of delusion!

Welcome! Welcome oh ye month of Maghfirah!

    EDITOR’S NOTE

In full honesty, Rilek1Corner has to applaud these Singapore Muslims who have come together to educate the public. This is perhaps the first time in a long time that the Muslim community have witnessed how a small group of dynamic individuals are able to move a community. Hopefully, there will be more of such efforts so that both our Malay and Muslim can also move forward in tandem with rest.

Yet another history in the making.

    Bismillahirrahmanirrahim

    The Mauqif – Standing point

Saiyyidina Abu Bakr as Siddiq rad. holds a special place within the Ummah. Indeed, there is a hadith that says after the Ambiya, the first to enter Jannah among this Ummah is Saiyyidina Abu Bakr.

The Ulema delved into this to ascertain why. They came up with the concept of the Mauqif. A standing point. A moment in time when, through one’s actions, one distinguishes one’s self above the rest. And there are so many occasions which are the mawaaqif where Abu BAkr shone. Very briefly, When he accepted Islam. Rasulullah SAW he never wavered even for a second when Rasulullah SAW first made dawah to Abu Bakr. Then, the incident of Isra Me”raj, a test for the Ummah. Abu Bakr never wavered or doubted the words of Rasulullah SAW. Then the incident of the passing of Rasulullah. In a moment where fitnah could emerge for the Ummah, Abu Bakr made that famous statement, ‘He who worships Muhamad, let him know that Muhammad is dead. But he who worships Allah, let him know that He is Alive, and Cannot die.’ Then the sending out of the army of Usama Bin Zaid, when even the senior sahabahs advised him to hold back and protect Madinah.

The life of this remarkable individual is filled with so many Mawaqif that will be his witness when he stands in the Court of Allah azzawajal.

Brothers and sisters, what is our Mawqif?

What actions can we take in this fleeting life to present in the Court of Allah azzawajal? In this current LGBT controversy, do we sit back within the safety of our comfort zone, or do we stand up and speak the Truth, for the sake of Allah azzawajal?

Wallahualam, but I believe this could count as a Mauqif for Prof Khai. There are many comments made regarding the NUS Provost letter. To my mind the capitulation and pandering to the Liberals is predictable. And at the end of the day, it is nothing more than a slap on the wrist for Prof.

I am very heartened that the unintended outcome of this event is the awakening of our community. We have been asleep for far too long. Subhanallah, so many has come up to voice their support. The pushback against the LGBT lobby is indeed eye-opening and unprecedented. The Ulema have come forward in numbers. The conservative majority is becoming less and less docile.

Brothers and sisters, this is the time to push forward. There are so many issues that are harming the Ummah. The LGBT lobby. The larger issue of the poison of Liberal Islam. So many of our youth are ideologically-defeated and dancing along the periphery of jahannam.

It is not the time to pull back. And focus on individual worship.

We have serious work to do. And in the process, in sha Allah, gather our own mawafiqs – standing points that can be our Witness in the Court of Allah azzawajal.

    Barakallahufeek.

Syed Danial commented on Minister Shanmugam’s Facebook comment regarding the LGBTQ issue.

There’s some confusion going around that I wish to address.

LGBT is a movement. It wishes to legitimize unnatural acts that is unacceptable in the sight of Allah azzawajal. I do not support the movement. I support homosexuals or people with tendencies who wish to change. To these people, we lend a helping hand. Not the LGBT movement.

At it’s heart, the movement is hypocritical. They claim to be promoting love. Universal love. That is disingenuous. Two people can profess love for each other. That does not mean they have to consummate it by piercing an orifice whose function is to excrete human waste. So the movement does not promote love. It promotes disease causing acts against nature .

We must differentiate between the two. Peace
