    Jurong Birdpark Relocating to Mandai

    jurong birdparkSINGAPORE: By 2020, Singaporeans and tourists can look forward to a more spectacular Singapore Zoo in Mandai. These plans were shared by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong during the Ask The Prime Minister ‘live’ forum broadcast on Channel NewsAsia and Channel 5 on Thursday (Sep 4).

    Mr Lee said the authorities are planning to expand the area where the zoo is, and this could include relocating the Bird Park in Jurong to Mandai. Mr Lee stressed that the development plans will focus on enhancing and not infringing the nature reserve.

    “You want to have an attraction which is like Gardens by the Bay. So it’s not a place where you just go to see some animals, but you also have public areas where you can wander around, you can take wedding pictures and you can enjoy the waterfront and watch the sunset on Upper Seletar Reservoir,” he said. “I think it can be a very beautiful and nice place.”

    Dear R1C,

    This scary incident happened in 2010 and it was something that I will never be able to forget.

    It was on Friday night. Me and hubby decided to check into Value Hotel after a friend’s birthday party. We didnt want to wake the kids up nor our elderly parents for coming home late. Besides it was a good time for us to be alone after so long.

    While we were sleeping, I was awoken by strange sounds from outside. The time was about 3.30 am or 4.00 am. It was as though someone was clawing the door with sharp fingernails. I thought it might be a cat and I love cats. So I decided get up and take a look. My hubby was sleeping soundly and he didn’t hear a thing. Thinking he must have been tired, I didn’t want to wake him up.

    The hotel room was cold. In fact I thought it was really chilly even though the temperature was 28 deg. I thought the air con was not working properly.

    So I walked towards the door, more like towards the clawing sound. When I was about to open the door, suddenly there was no more clawing sound. It stopped. I suddenly had chills and goosebumps. Perhaps it was cold. I was hesitant to open the door but I forced myself to do it thinking that I shouldnt think too much about crazy things like ghost or hantu.

    Hands on the door knob, I opened the door. Luckily there was nothing outside. I didn’t dare to step outside or look around either. But there was No cat, no animal at all. Just that It was really cold.

    So odd. So what sound was that and who or what was making that sound? Maybe it was really a cat? Well, maybe..

    I closed the door, went back to bed. Just as I was about to close my eyes I suddenly heard the clawing sound again. This time it got louder, like as though it could pierced through the door. What the hell was that? Must have been a big cat or a dog!

    I stood up and look at the door. There, it stopped again.

    By that time I had a lot of imagination running through my head. Ghost lah, big animal lah, thief lah.

    Just as I wanted to lie down again, my eyes spotted something in the right corner of the room. I dont remember seeing anything like that earlier but it look like a black figure tucked in a corner, squatting and looking at me. I tried not to look but somehow I still wanted to look. Serve me right!

    I tried to shout as loud as I can but there was no voice that came out. I couldnt hear myself anymore. Felt as though I’m in a vacumm. All the noises and sounds got muted. I was crying and tearing and felt that my veins could burst from futile shouting but my hubby still sound asleep and undisturbed by all these happenings. He couldnt hear anything.

    I tried to reach out to him and move my hands, but somehow my hands froze and I was unable to move anything. I felt I was going to die of fear. I shut my eyes and refused to open. My heart was so beating fast! Will the creature jump at me? I dunno!

    I wanted to say some Quranic verses but it slipped my mind and all I could think about at the point what that I was going to die a horrible death. Suddenly I felt two hands grab hold of me and my voice started bursting and I could hear myself shouting again. My hubby was shocked to see me sitting up and shaken as though I was having a fit. I told him what happened in limited vocab I had what happened. He was shocked. By that time I was drenched in sweat and I was in a state of shock.

    We quickly pack up and left the hotel as soon as we can.

    Until today it got me wondering, was that Orang Minyak or Oily Man lurking in the corner? Whatever the thing was, it was creepy no doubt.

    Affinity Yoga Shuts Down, Police Reports Filed

    Affinity yogaSINGAPORE: Customers of Affinity Yoga, which operates two outlets here, have filed reports against the company after it shut its doors unexpectedly on Tuesday (Sep 2), the police confirmed.

    Notices were posted on the company’s website and at its River Valley Road and Telok Ayer Street studios announcing that classes would be suspended because most of its teaching team had “left without giving notice”. It also asked customers to wait a few days for things to be sorted out.

    Attempts to reach the company’s management over the past two days were successful. It is unclear how many customers it has.

    Checks with the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority show that Affinity Yoga was registered in June last year, with Ms Haustead Nikki Shadforth, an Australian, and Ms Jeanne Chung, an American, listed as its directors. The company, which offered yoga and pilates instruction, had S$1,000 in paid-up capital.

    On its website, there were at least 10 instructors listed on its team.

    Both outlets remained shut when TODAY visited on Wednesday and there were customers who turned up, unaware of the situation.

    Affected customers interviewed expressed their concern over the situation, citing the slashing of membership fees in the past few months.

    One of the customers, Ms Celina Low, 46, said classes at the River Valley studio were going on as usual when she visited on Monday. On Tuesday morning, however, she and others who were looking to attend classes found the studio closed. She said she had paid more than S$1,000 for a one-year package with unlimited classes last year, but the same package was going at S$365 in July.

    Another student bought the same package for S$1,580 last year and was offered a renewal for S$552 in April.

    “There were very irregular pricings and very aggressive marketing tactics,” said Ms Low.

    JOHOR BAHRU – Seorang wanita warga Singapura tergamak mengakui dirinya bukan beragama Islam bagi mengelak dirinya dicekup bersama pasangannya dalam serbuan Ops Ambang Merdeka, semalam.

    Wanita terbabit ditahan kerana disyaki berkhalwat bersama seorang lelaki bukan Islam dalam serbuan Bahagian Penguat Kuasa Jabatan Agama Islam Johor (Jaij) di sebuah hotel sekitar Taman Johor Jaya.

    Ketika disoal anggota operasi mengenai agamanya, dengan selamba wanita berusia 21 tahun itu mendakwa dirinya bukan Islam meskipun dalam pasport tertera ‘binti’ pada namanya.

    Ketua Penolong Pengarah Bahagian Penguat Kuasa Jaij, Mohd Zamri Kambari berkata, pihaknya tetap menahan wanita itu mengikut Seksyen 27 Enakmen

    Kesalahan Jenayah Syariah 1997 (Negeri Johor) kerana didapati berkhalwat bersama lelaki yang bukan suami atau mahramnya.

    “Melihat kepada alasan diberikan suspek, kita tetap membawanya ke balai polis untuk proses dokumentasi sebelum dibawa ke pejabat agama untuk tindakan susulan.

    “Kita juga akan bekerjasama dengan pihak berkuasa di Singapura untuk mengetahui latar belakangnya bagi mendapatkan kebenaran terhadap dakwaan kononnya dia bukan beragama Islam.

    “Jadi wanita itu juga kena buktikan juga yang dirinya bukan beragama Islam. Jaij menahannya kerana didapati berkhalwat malah nama tertera pada pasportnya merupakan nama individu Melayu,” katanya.

    Sementara itu, keinginan seorang pengurus sebuah syarikat untuk melampiaskan nafsu bersama gadis warga asing, terbantut apabila bilik hotel bajet dihuninya diserbu Jaij.

    Lelaki berusia 55 tahun itu ditahan bersama seorang wanita warga Filipina berusia lingkungan 20an dalam serbuan berasingan.

    Ketika disoal siasat, lelaki terbabit mendakwa mula memasuki bilik hotel berkenaan sekitar jam 7 malam kelmarin sementara wanita warga asing itu pula hadir kira-kira jam 1 pagi semalam.

    Beliau turut mengakui mendapatkan perkhidmatan seks ditawarkan oleh gadis genit warga asing itu pada harga RM200 bagi satu malam.
