Israeli President Pay Respects To Lee Kuan Yew

Israeli President Reuven Rivlin paid his respects to Singapore’s founding Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew at Parliament House on Friday (Mar 27).

Mr Rivlin cited Ecclesiastes 7:1 from the Bible’s Old Testament in his tribute to Mr Lee. “’A good name is better than a good perfume’, for a good name will last forever.  In memory of a leader whose deeds and legacy will be remembered always. A dear friend of Israel and the Jewish people,” he wrote in Mr Lee’s official book of condolence.

Mr Rivlin will attend Mr Lee’s State Funeral on Sunday at the National University of Singapore’s University Cultural Centre. The Israeli President said he also hoped to strengthen ties between the two nations during his visit.

“It is a great privilege for me to participate in the funeral of Lee Kuan Yew, and during my visit, I intend to do all in my power to strengthen ties, and to express our deep appreciation for all that you do, and continue to do for the state of Israel,” The Times of Israel reported Mr Rivlin as saying.

Earlier in the week, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in an official statement that Mr Lee will be remembered with great admiration and respect.

“Lee Kuan Yew, the founding father of Singapore, was not only a great leader of his nation, but also a figure of great international renown,” he said.

“Under his leadership, Singapore set an example of how a small country can become an economic powerhouse by harnessing the ingenuity and entrepreneurial spirit of its people. He will be remembered in Israel and around the world with great admiration and respect.”

  • Praise Of Lee Kuan Yew In Some Friday Prayer Sermons Angers Some In Malay Community

Praise Of Lee Kuan Yew In Some Friday Prayer Sermons Angers Some In Malay Community

The death of the nation’s founding Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew has permeated into our consciousness extensively since his death on Monday morning, but some Muslims have taken issue with the case of praising his legacy during Friday sermons earlier this afternoon.

Usually delivered during Friday services before conducting their Zuhur (noon) congregation prayers, topics typically range from community, ethics, morals and generally all about being a better Muslim and human being.

According to the transcript of today’s khutbah — sermons delivered by imams to Muslims attending Friday prayers at mosques — a portion of the speech is dedicated to Lee Kuan Yew, praising the late statesman for his role in ensuring a multi-racial and multi-religious society while also encouraging attendees to reflect on their own personal legacies.

Some Muslims however have taken issue with the tribute to Lee Kuan Yew in their Friday prayers, a sort of unwelcome intrusion of state into religion.

MUIS khutbah today…for Muslims to emulate Lee Kuan Yew.They praise a man who discriminate Muslims, insulted Islam …during khutbah Jumaat. This is MUIS now. A government propaganda machinery.

BrothersA lot of us are upset with MUIS referring to Lee Kuan Yew in the khutbah…which is supposed to be a sermon…

Not all mosques however report the same cases of references to the late Lee Kuan Yew — some imams have left out the section concerning his passing in their sermons.
Some Muslims have also raised concerns about the inclusion of politics in places of worship, while others feel that the passing of Lee does impact the community as a whole and it would be relevant in context of current events.

Abdul Salim Harun: Be Rational And Give Credit Where Due

I had a very good laugh this morning. Why? Received a pm from someone asking whether I had switch to the other side!

I deleted him off immediately from my friend list.

Just because I’m paying my respect to the Late Mr Lee Kuan Yew means I’m switching side? Are you an idiot to think that I’m so easily being swayed and bought? For goodness sake, go get a life!

I’m paying my respect to him because I will not deny the facts that he had build up Singapore to what it is today. And definitely, I will not deny the facts that there are also his bad policies which affected us as Singaporeans as a whole.

But now, he had passed away. Let’s give him the respect that he deserved as a statesman, for all that he has done for the good and well being of our belove Singapore! Is it so hard to even do that?

For the bad policies, isn’t it good now that he’s no longer with us and each and everyone of us can now work hard to correct all those wrongs that he had made?

You know, in this time of National Mourning, let us all be rational and not emotional. Nobody is perfect. Give the credit where it is due.

  • Take Chance On Opposition In Upcoming GE, Kick PAP Out

Take Chance On Opposition In Upcoming GE, Kick PAP Out

Our only shot to topple PAP is on 2016 elections, if we don’t vote against PAP within 10 years time the new citizens population would be more than our population, they might even vote against PAP, kicked them out, formed their own party and presumably govern us.

People can choose to either be brave and give oppositions the chance and possibly turn a lot of the bad policies around or become a minority in our country in 10 years time and maybe have to be govern by these new citizens and see our economy being handled by them.

You all so scared the oppositions will make us suffer economically because you all think what if they aren’t good enough, in the future if the new citizens govern us will they destroy our economy?

So which would you choose oppositions or PAP and its population white paper policy which will make you a minority in your own country and possibly being govern by these new citizens in the future and them controlling our economy when they have the majority numbers and enough votes to control us, since u don’t have enough trust in our oppositions?

    Your choice.

  • Najib Razak Defends Use Of Sedition Act To Prevent Acts Of Terrorism

Najib Razak Defends Use Of Sedition Act To Prevent Acts Of Terrorism

The police are justified in making arrests under the colonial-era Sedition Act 1948 to prevent acts of terrorism in the country, Datuk Seri Najib Razak said today.

The prime minister said use of the Act was a preventive measure and if not used, more people could become victims to acts of terror.

The controversial law, criticised by many here and abroad for quelling legitimate dissent, was useful in preserving ethnic relations, he added.

“We also place importance on ethnic and religious relations and that is why we are strengthening the Sedition Act. All this is meant to forestall something bad from happening to our country.

“As the saying goes in English, ‘prevention is better than cure’. I believe that it is better for us to have preventive detention laws than having someone commit an act of terror.

“If terrorism were to happen, many lives may be sacrificed,” Najib said in a speech to the police force at the 208th Police Day anniversary in Kuala Lumpur today.

Najib said there was no reason for the government to apologise for using the Sedition Act, despite international criticism against the colonial-era law.‎

“We should not be apologetic. Some may say this is not democratic, this ‎(violates) rights to freedom, and more.

“But I want to say that there is no absolute freedom. There is no place for absolute freedom without responsibility in this country,” said Najib.

He also gave his assurance that the Prevention of Terrorism Act, which will be tabled in Parliament soon, would not be used for political purposes.

Najib added that the executive arm of the government would have no say in whether to detain an individual under the new act.

“The government has no intention of using the new act for political purposes. That is why the power to detain is not placed under members of the administration.

“We will place it under a credible body so that only those truly involved in terrorism can be detained under the new act. That way, we can guarantee Malaysia will continue to be safe,” said Najib.

He also reminded Malaysians not to belittle the efforts of the police force in ensuring public safety.‎

“We should not disrespect the police and look down on them by using words and insults that are unsuitable, as if the police act ‎freely as they like.

“The groups that insult the police’s honour are completely irresponsible,” said Najib.

The police have come under heavy criticism after nearly 90 anti-goods and services tax (GST) protesters were arrested on Monday as they were demonstrating at the Customs Department headquarters in Kelana Jaya.

Opposition politicians have also accused Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim of taking selective action and targeting opponents of Barisan Nasional (BN).
