  • Is Government Providing Fair Subsidy To Local And Foreign Stallholders?

Is Government Providing Fair Subsidy To Local And Foreign Stallholders?

I went to this stall because of their signboard.

As I asked about the subsidy as shown, I receive the following reply.

The stall owner Aunty raised her tone at me with her angry pointed-up eyebrows, which look like an angry bird in red.

I asked about the written subsidy meal.. She shout :’ Government help one, I am private. Different, u dun understand??!!’

I told her :’ Your attitude is bad, I do not want to order your food.’

I walk to another economic stall. The boss explained, I am not the 1st person to feedback on her bad attitude. He explained, the boss of the stall is a PRC lady. She receives 5k subsidy assistance per month.

    Isn’t this a 100% profitting business?

Why is so much help cater to prc, but how about local hawker entrepreneurs?

We have to go through approval n approval and check n checks.

I kinda felt the unfairness to other hawker entrepreneurs whom just start out their noble hawker business.

To start a hawker stall, a $30k to 40k is needed. His stall rental is 1.7k per month.

My outcoming stall rental is 1.8k.

Is a hawker entrepreneur life easy?

How many plates of rice do we need to sell to cover the basic cost price. The long working hours too.

My morning is indeed a memorable one.

    Regards,
    Aunty Pan

SMRT: Looking Into Viral Bus Fare Dispute Involving Foreign Driver

SMRT said on its Facebook page: “We apologise for the inconvenience caused to all affected passengers.”

The company added in its statement that all bus captains attend English classes to improve their ability to understand and converse in the language.

“They are also encouraged to seek help from other passengers if they do encounter communication difficulties. So please help where you can,” said SMRT.

The Facebook user also added that one of the children who paid for the bus fare was 0.86m tall.

According to TransitLink’s website, children up to a height of 0.9m who are accompanied by an adult may travel for free.

The Facebook post has been making the rounds on social media, with nearly 2,000 shares, and has received a mix of reactions from netizens.

One user, Vince Viknesh J’eg Pillay, said the ability to communicate in English should have been a basic requirement for bus captains.

“It can lead to disastrous consequences should an emergency arise and the driver is not able to communicate with the passengers,” the user commented.

  • Foreign SMRT Driver Don’t Understand English, Own Company’s Child Fare Policy, Refused To Drive

Foreign SMRT Driver Don’t Understand English, Own Company’s Child Fare Policy, Refused To Drive

Driver went on STRIKE, did not want to continue the journey and all of us had to change to the next 969 bus. Waste all of the passenger’s fare and time.. Just because 2 small kids (4YRS OLD & 2 YRS OLD) who was forced to pay bus fare but the driver can’t tell how much is the fare in ENGLISH. If you can’t speak English well… at least know the basics. You can’t come to our country & expect us to speak your language. Brainless.

And as for you SMRT.. Number 1, please send your FOREIGN drivers for a basic English Speaking course to interact with passengers who can’t speak in Chinese. Number 2, please revise your “Child Bus Fare” requirements.. now year 2017 going 2018 already.. All children below 7 years are tall already.. So please uh..Β πŸ˜‘πŸ˜‘πŸ˜‘

Last pic is one of the 3 kids that have to pay for the bus fare.. as measured, she is only 86cm..

  • PRC Academics Ridicule Singapore Government In The Midst Of Lee Family Feud

PRC Academics Ridicule Singapore Government In The Midst Of Lee Family Feud

Academics from prominent state-linked universities in China have weighed in on the Lee Family Feud over 38 Oxley Road, the home of the late former prime minister Lee Kuan Yew.

The dispute between current Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, his younger sister Dr Lee Wei Ling and younger brother Lee Hsien Loong, has become a topic of public interest in China, particularly among government officials. This comes after shocking revelations released on a nearly daily basis from the prime minister’s younger siblings.

The key criticism of Singapore’s model of governance comes from a Confucian point of view.

One academic who specializes in Southeast Asia, Ju Hailong, expressed doubts on the ability of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong to continue ruling Singapore: “This will definitely affect his political base, as ethnic Chinese hold the value that if a person cannot handle his family well then he loses the ability to run a country.”

Another academic, Zhang Mingliang from Jinan University also spoke on the Confucian concept of family harmony, stating that Lee’s image has been undermined after he could not maintain his own family’s harmony.

Even the State Council Information Office has criticized Lee for failing to uphold the Singaporean principles of integrity and meritocracy, values built up painstakingly by his father, pointing out that β€œeven his closest family members distrust and openly accuse him.”
